I’m Axel Hackbarth – passionate mechatronics engineer, climate emergency thinker and tinkerer, sports and tech enthusiast. I love to get my hands dirty, see the world with my own eyes, deal with all the challenges that nature and society throws at me and succeed — fail. I learned this lesson in multiple ways. I have high expectations on whatever I’m currently after, but the highest expectations are on myself, so failure is everything but a rare coincidence. The good thing is, one can learn to fail. And I even enjoy failing, because with every failure, I learn a very important lesson. The imminent risk of failing is something I take into account in all my ventures, as it opens up a wide range of fascinating opportunities, that the fear of failure would prevent me from.
With this attitude, I not only learned to sail alone across oceans, to kitesurf big waves on remote islands, climb mountains and find my perfect line down, but also endured the ups and downs of my career, pursuing an idealistic and fulfilling job where I can make an impact for people and the planet.
